Parenting

The aim of these courses is to enable parents to improve skills, change family power structures and develop more honest and respectful relationships in their families. Our vision is to support, encourage and equip families connected with the church and local community. We try to fulfil this vision by making available courses which we think people will find helpful in their daily lives. One of outcomes of the courses that we aim for is that those that attend feel safe, valued and encouraged to make small changes that will improve their self-esteem and their relationships with their families.

Most courses run for seven sessions and take place in a friendly, safe environment and include coffee and chat, video and discussion. These courses are run on church premises at various times during the year and include a creche when necessary.  Mums AND Dads are welcome.

Our courses have enabled parents to carry out significant changes in their parenting and we were delighted to hear of these changes and how greatly they had been helped by attending the courses. One couple told us that they hadn't been arguing while doing the course, so it was obviously helping their marriage as well as their parenting a very worthwhile bonus!

Please contact the Church Office to find out when the next courses are planned to take place

Here are a few comments from people who recently attended our  5 - 15s Course...

The DVD was extremely useful. The book was the best tool as it could be referred to at any time.

I appreciated the opportunity to discuss isssues with other parents and find out that I'm not the only one!

The book has become my bible. Keep u the excellent work

Book interesting, helpful reading.

I have found it all very positive and encouraging. We sat down as a couple (parents) and talked about what we both found hard as parents and worked out a plan to deal with it.

It was great to take time out to reflect, before the course and after, and give ourselves a little encouragement when it went well.

Learning I am not alone with my problems

Sharing problems, opinions and ideas with others has been the most helpful.

It was nice to hear you aren't the only person who has problems.

I love having opportunity to think family issues through with others. It's reassuring to know that we all find similar issues challenging.

Here are some of the things people said about our 0 - 6s course...

I really do feel more confident in my role as a mother after doing this course, and also more relaxed. The course was well run in a relaxed atmosphere. It was serious but fun too - you weren't made to feel uncomfortable or judged. I'm proud of what I'm doing now.

Great fun, nice to get out of the house and meet other parents.

I benefited from all the sessions in some way. I enjoyed the relaxation at the end of each session.

It has been great to be able to work through issues with you both and the group. Thanks for your input. It is very much appreciated.
