Paula and Matias

Over 40% of the population in Argentina is under 25 years of age, and this is the age group that Paula, a trained teacher, and Matias, a trained car technician and craftman, love to work with.

Sadly there is a lack of people who are willing to invest their time in the lives of these young people who, more often than not, end up seeking fulfilment in all the wrong places.

Paula and Matias have been working with children and young people in Salta, in conjunction with the Anglican church.

They are currently studying in Cordoba at the EMPI, a Bible college which specialises in mission and church planting.  It is a very practical course with many opportunities to learn, grow and serve local churches and communities at weekends and during their long term placements.  After EMPI they plan to return to Salta to continue serving the church and local community.

Barbara 2016

Barbara

It was in 1993 that Barbara originally felt God may have a mission for her in Africa. But life circumstances (and a fear of flying!) meant it remained on the back-burner of life at that time. Plus, with her children still at school, she knew it was not quite the time. They would need to be settled into their own lives first.

In 2007 Tim and Maz, working with the Thembalitsha charity came to church to present a new project they were hoping to set up in Grabouw, South Africa. The minute Barbara heard about the Village of Hope, she knew that was where she was meant to be.

In 2009 Barbara got the opportunity to go out to South Africa at last, the fulfilment of something that started back in 1993 – 16 years in the making! In 2010 she went for a further 15 weeks, and then again in 2011 for 4 weeks.

Barbara flew out to the village of hope in June 2013 - for one year initially, but with the hope of staying longer. Some of her responsibilities include being 'house mum' to volunteer teams and teaching healthy cooking skills. To read what else she gets up to see her latest prayer letter.

Brenda

Brenda moved to Romania in 2000. She helps run a daily afterschool club for children from poor families. The children are given a meal and help with their homework. On Fridays Brenda teaches a Bible story, songs and a memory verse.

Lorentina who cooks the meal suffers with heart problems. Lettig and Annie help with the teaching and translating.

Paul and Ruth 2016

Paul and Ruth

Paul worked for many years as a chartered accountant and finance director before moving to a Christian development organisation in Central Asia.  Ruth was a language teacher before retraining as an office manager both of which skills she brought to the work in Central Asia.

They are now in India where Paul is helping with the set up of a Christian Development Agency working with the socially marginalised.  At the same time he is providing advice in management, administration and finance to a number of Christian schools and other institutions.  Ruth is helping to build the capacity of the teachers in the schools and running after school English clubs for hostel children.  In addition they have been able to provide hospitality to a number of people in their locality and those passing through.
